The Renault F1 Team announces that Giancarlo Fisichella will drive for the team in 2007.

The Renault F1 Team is delighted to announce the continuation of its relationship with Italian Giancarlo Fisichella for the 2007 season. The Italian is currently enjoying his strongest Formula 1 season to date. His excellent working relationship with the team, allied to undoubted speed, will form the backbone of the Renault F1 Team’s 2007 challenge.

Giancarlo Fisichella commented: “It was very important for me to know my future as soon as possible in the season. I am delighted to be staying at Renault next year, and to have the opportunity to see my hard work with the team over the past two seasons come to fruition. I want to thank the Renault F1 Team and the Renault Group for the trust they have placed in me. This clear vision for the future means I can focus 100% on the job at hand: retaining the constructors’ championship with Renault in 2006 and finishing as high as possible in the drivers’ standings.”

Renault F1 Team Managing Director Flavio Briatore commented: “We are extremely pleased to continue working with Giancarlo next year. He was an integral part of our championship success last year; he has upped his game significantly for 2006, making the team even stronger; we believe he can do it again for 2007. It is important for Renault to maintain continuity as we move into next year, and Giancarlo’s integration with the team is now perfect. What’s more, his experience with the team over two championship campaigns will be an invaluable asset. We will have ambitious targets for next season, and Giancarlo is capable of achieving them.”

Giancarlo, you will be driving for Renault again in 2007. What are your feelings?
To be honest, I am pleased to have my future secure, it will allow me to clear my head and concentrate 100% on the second part of the season, which will be crucial for the team.

Do you think it is important for you and the team to continue together?
Yes, I am convinced of it. I am very pleased to continue with Renault: the atmosphere in the team is fantastic, and I have a good relationship with the engineers and mechanics, who are happy with the work we are doing. The Renault package is certainly the best on the grid, and it is important for me to carry on driving it!

Do you know who your team-mate will be yet?
It is still too early to say but I am not worried. I know every decision will be made in the best interests of the team and, therefore, for me too. What I can say, is that whoever my team-mate is, I am not afraid of measuring up to them.

You say you are pleased with the announcement. How will you approach the next races in the championship?
As I said, I am very happy with the announcement. I am really looking forward to the next races. Physically and mentally, I am in really good shape. Our car is running well, the engine and tyres too, we are working hard, so I don’t see any reason why we won’t be successful in the coming races. We have a good opportunity to fight at the front of the field, and that’s critical for our championship push.

Mah, Fisichella je sposoban da postigne rezultat kao i Alonso, samo što je njemu sada kao npr. Barichellu 2004.
Ne bi ga oni ostavili da je on zbilja slab kao što to rezultati ove sezone u usporedbi sa ALonsom govore...

Nisam ovo ocekivao, tesko se sa njim mogu boriti za titulu, odlican je vozac ali nije veliki vozac. Bice i dalje pobjeda za talijane u F1, evo 3 godine za redom imaju pobjede.
