Gabor Talmacsi is set to switch from KTM to Honda with the Hungarian poised to sign a deal with the Scot Honda team. Talmasci, who finished third overall in the 125cc World Championship, turned down an offer to continue with KTM in 2006.

The rider’s manager, Stefano Favaro, explained that Talmacsi rejected the chance to stay with 125cc Red Bull KTM team as he didn’t want to remain their second rider, and is now close to securing another ride for the Hungarian.

Scot Honda will provide him with the opportunity to ride a factory Honda with the full backing from the Japanese manufacturer and the support of the crew which helped Andrea Dovizioso clinch the 2004 crown.

The deal should be rubber-stamped on Tuesday (November 15th) and Talmacsi could make his Honda debut later this month when the team takes part in a two-day test at Jerez, Spain.

“I'm pleased to know where I'm going next year. It's nice to end a positive year that way,” said Talmacsi. “I'm happy to get the number one status at a very competitive team. I have to thank KTM for this season because it was my best year since my Grand Prix debut. By mid-season, I believed I had some chances to fight for the title, but unfortunately, I made a few mistakes with which all my options vanished.”

His manager Favaro said: “I think we made the best choice by turning down KTM and going for Honda. We are pleased to see an Italian company like Scot trusting in Gabor. The season has just finished but he'll be back to work pretty soon.”
