The Indianapolis 500 is one of the biggest and most iconic sporting events in the world. The legendary Brickyard is steeped in history, hosting some of the most memorable encounters in the annals of motorsport. In the 1960s, Colin Chapman’s Lotus team brought revolution to Indy. In a field dominated by US-built, front-engined machinery, the European invaders rolled out the Lotus 38 with its powerful V8 Ford engine mounted at the back. After two years of development, and with Formula One star Jim Clark at the steering wheel, the team was ready to battle for victory in 1965 A Revolution at Indy features exceptional archive footage charting this historic showdown. The film follows the entire Month of May, from the early preparations in Gasoline Alley, through practice and qualifying and on to race day itself. “Voice of the Indy 500” Sid Collins narrates this fascinating story as we see the legends of US motorsport, including A.J. Foyt, Parnelli Jones and Bobby Unser – plus Mario Andretti in his rookie year – preparing to fight the Lotus revolution. There’s rare film of the record-breaking qualifying, where speeds rose on almost every lap to a new high of 161.233mph, and dramatic action from the race itself, as Clark demolishes the opposition to complete the revolution – rear-engined cars were here to stay! This DVD also features Ford Flat Out, a unique look at the historic 1969 US motorsport season. We follow Mario Andretti as he claims victory at the Indy 500, watch Danny Ongais race the Mickey Thompson-prepared Mustang Funny Car at the American Hot Rod Association Springnationals and follow the NASCAR championship as legends Richard Petty and David Pearson go head-to-head for the biggest prize in US motorsport.
